Save the Date for the Wildlife Awareness Forum

Bear at the table

Come learn about living with wildlife such as bears and cougars at an upcoming Wildlife Awareness Forum. The event, hosted by the City of Snoqualmie, takes place February 13, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Snoqualmie Library, 7824 Center Blvd SE. Rich Beausoleil of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will talk about wildlife safety and answer questions. Emily Newcomer of Waste Management will share best practices for effective garbage management with a display of bear-resistant containers available for the public. Children are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.

According to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, human and bear encounters have the potential to increase as human populations encroach on habitat. Bears most often avoid humans, but encounters do occur, particularly when bears are attracted to garbage. Bears should be given respect due to their strength and speed. In the case of an encounter, give bears room to retreat without feeling threatened.
