Snoqualmie Hills Annexation

During the summer of 2017, the City of Snoqualmie was approached by Snoqualmie Heights Partners LLC with a letter of intent for a proposed annexation of Snoqualmie Hills West, which is in the City’s Urban Growth Area. The annexation would have included an active adult living community and potential retail development.

Following three public meetings that included developer presentations and many opportunities for public comment, Mayor Matt Larson and the city administration raised several concerns about moving toward a potential annexation at this time and the City Council voted against moving forward with the developer's proposal. Concerns included, among others, uncertainty of water and sewer capacity, and the community’s need for time to absorb other development projects underway.

Similar to the need for affordable housing, Snoqualmie would benefit from an active adult living community with accommodations for older residents of all abilities. The city's Comprehensive Plan supports

  • increasing opportunities for seniors to live in accessible housing with nearby services,
  • allowing and encouraging a range of housing types, such as independent living, various degrees of assisted living, and skilled nursing care facilities, and
  • requiring a number of living units to be designed with Universal Design principles with at least one no-step entrance, master bedroom or all bedrooms on the ground floor, and wheelchair-friendly floor plans.

At some point in the future, the City of Snoqualmie will be in a position to reconsider an adult living community. In the meantime, the upper Snoqualmie Valley has older adult living residences and skilled nursing facilities in North Bend. 

The Mt. Si Senior Center offers many programs for older adults including lunch, fitness classes, health services, outings, and special events.
